TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE EVALUATION
The Department of Transportation (DOT) DECKHAND (FERRYBOAT) examination is being given on an Open basis. This examination will consist of submitting an STD678 and this self-assessment Training and Experience Evaluation.
This questionnaire is your entire exam and is designed to elicit a range of specific information regarding each candidate's knowledge, abilities, and experience to effectively perform the duties relative to the classification(s). Candidates are responsible for reading all of the material provided prior to completing the questionnaire. Responses will be evaluated using predetermined rating criteria. In order to obtain a position on the eligible list, a minimum rating of 70% must be attained. Please answer questions completely since incomplete responses and omitted information cannot be considered and/or assumed. Resumes, letters of reference, and other materials will not be evaluated or considered as responses to items in the Training and Experience Evaluation.
(NOTE: Failure to meet the entrance requirements and/or to complete this evaluation accurately will result in elimination from this examination.)
Candidates who fail to follow the instructions and/or who solicit input or assistance from others to complete this questionnaire will be eliminated from the examination.
This examination requires respondents to answer 10 self-rating questions. The examination answers cannot be saved for completion at a later time, therefore, the examination MUST be completed in one session.
This examination consists of submitting an STD678 and completing an online Training and Experience evaluation.
The STD.678 is required to be uploaded prior to proceeding with the Supplemental Application Questionnaire. The STD.678 must be in a PDF format to be uploaded. Click here for the link to the (STD.678) form if you do not already have one available to submit.
Examinations are processed on a monthly basis. The final monthly submission date is on the last day of each month by 11:59 pm. Pacific Standard Time (PST). The Training and Experience evaluation must be completed and submitted by the time and date mentioned above to be processed. To submit any work completed hit the 'CONFIRM RESULTS' button before the monthly submission date or your examination will not be considered until the next month.
Candidates will be notified of their scores approximately 4-6 weeks after the cut-off date.

Caltrans recognizes that problems may occur with Internet systems while a candidate is in the middle of submitting examination materials. In the event that you encounter problems with the Internet that you are not able to resolve, you may:
1. CALL the Examination Analyst at (916) 227-7858 during regular business hours (Monday-Friday) to receive instructions on how to continue.
2. SUBMIT a request for assistance via E-mail at askExams@dot.ca.gov, providing the following information:
-The name of the Examination
-The date and time you began submitting your examination materials online
